Embrace Your Power and Own It!

This is the last in a series of blogs about the core values - or Immutable Laws - we hold dear here at The SLC Group. Today, I want to share more about what it means to “own it.”

For me, these two words hold immense power. Essentially, owning it refers to taking responsibility, empowering others, and embracing authenticity. I know from experience how living this principle can transform our businesses and our lives.

Taking Responsibility

To me, owning it starts with accountability. It's about recognizing that the results in my life—whether good or bad—are largely a consequence of my actions. This doesn’t mean blaming myself for everything that goes wrong. It means acknowledging my role in situations and taking steps to improve them. It’s about being in the driver's seat of my life, steering towards the goals I set.

When I apply this to my business, the impact is profound. Through this lens, challenges become opportunities for growth and places to practice new ways of getting what I want. I remember this whenever a project doesn’t go as planned. Instead of blaming external factors or complaining about things that didn’t go the “right” way, I look at what I could have done differently. This reflection has led to significant improvements in our processes, and ultimately, better outcomes for our clients.

Empowering Others

Beyond just a personal philosophy, owning it is also something we encourage in our clients. Rather than swooping in to solve every problem, we aim to empower business owners to see themselves as the architects of their own success. It’s about providing the tools and guidance needed for them to take control of their businesses. This empowerment fosters confidence and self-sufficiency, leading to sustainable success.

For example, when we work with small business owners who struggle with managing their finances, we don’t just fix their books and move on. We teach them how to do things more effectively. By the end of our engagement, they aren’t in a better financial position because we got them there. They’re better off because they know better, having been equipped with the skills and confidence needed to maintain their own progress.

Embracing Authenticity

Finally, owning it means embracing who we are and rocking it. Authenticity is key to building trust and meaningful connections, whether in business or personal life. At The SLC Group, we believe in being true to ourselves and encouraging others to do the same. This authenticity shines through in everything we do, from the way we communicate with clients to the services we offer.

I’ve found that when I’m authentic, I attract clients who resonate with our values, which makes our work together more fulfilling and impactful. Being authentic also helps me draw boundaries and sift through the endless noise and input we get as business owners, allowing me to build a company that reflects MY goals - not some fad or the latest business guru’s idea of success.

How will you own it?

A commitment to own it is a powerful mindset, one that’s helped me grow personally and professionally. It’s a joy to see our clients experience the same transformation.

In my journey, I’ve learned that success isn’t just about reaching a destination. It’s about who you are and who you become along the way. By owning every step of the journey, I’ve found a kind of joy and fulfillment that goes beyond brief flashes of success and achievement, and my life is richer because of it.

How about you? How will you commit to owning it in your life and in your business? If you have something to share, we’d love to hear about it and help hold you accountable!!
